Since the founding years, ifm has grown considerably – we have retained our virtues, our quality standards and our sincere and respectful cooperation. Today, the second-generation family-run ifm group and is one of the worldwide market leaders. Our customers are still the focus of our work.

On 29 October 1969 the time had come: Today's ifm group of companies was founded as ifm electronic geräte gmbh+co kg. The motivation was to do it in a different way than all the others – and better.

In ifm's foundation year, success started with the invention of inductive sensors for 220 V.

Our corporate profits are the capital required to create and secure training and jobs and to invest in innovation. A value-based approach plays an important role within the ifm group of companies. The founder generation has already defined principles in a philosophy which is today translated into 16 languages and given to every employee. In it we encourage our ethic corporate culture and responsible and sustainable action – also in a global context. Business success and moral behaviour do not contradict each other for us. The continuous growth since the company was founded is proof of this.

ifm is closely connected to Germany as a location for industry with its corporate headquarters in Essen and a development and production site in Tettnang on Lake Constance where more than two thirds of the portfolio are developed and manufactured.

ifm’s high-tech centre The SUMMIT in Siegen provides a common office base for the five companies belonging to the ifm group: pmdtechnologies ag, ifm services gmbh, ifm software gmbh, ifm solutions gmbh and ifm business solutions gmbh. About 420 specialists from all areas of Industry 4.0 work together on visionary ideas and successful solutions in the fields of camera technology, IIoT and SAP-based supply chain management. With an eye to the future, The SUMMIT stands for development and delivery of standardised 3D sensors and software solutions.

Other production sites in large sales markets such as Asia or the USA allow fast reaction to regional market requirements. To ensure ifm's high quality standards, the employees in the international plants are also trained in Germany.

Our mission 
For us, quality refers to more than just the product. All our processes are designed with customer service and product quality in mind. We support each customer in person, wherever in the world and in whatever language.

We use our customers' feedback to continuously improve the quality of our products. Our sensors are tested with values far beyond the indicated limits using special procedures to ensure that they keep our promise in the customers' processes. Moreover, each product is subjected to a final inspection before it leaves the company. We take this promise serious and guarantee each catalogue product for 5 years.

Our company goals
The following is already stated in the in the corporate philosophy, written down in 1990: “ifm demands and promotes ecologically conscious decisions and conduct.” We would like to continue to take this guiding principle to heart and expand it in the future.
We consider sustainable value creation to be an essential prerequisite of our business success. After all, durable and high-quality products from ifm not only contribute towards the conservation of resources, but also increase customer satisfaction. For us, climate-friendly action begins on our own doorstep and is not limited to energy efficiency or the use of renewable energy sources. The construction of our first green factory in Romania marks a milestone in eco-friendly and climate-neutral manufacturing, and serves as a blueprint for future construction projects, bringing us one step closer to our goal of becoming climate-neutral in our operations by 2030.

ifm Code of Conduct
The ifm Code of Conduct basically summarises the values of the ifm corporate philosophy and transports them into the present. The ifm Code of Conduct is the charter of our activities and our success - which we as ifm are convinced of. It is the guarantee for us as ifm that we are perceived and appreciated by our business partners as a moral company.

We, the ifm group of companies, stand for the following values:

• We follow the applicable laws, guidelines and standards.
• We treat each other and our business partners respectfully. The religion, the sex, the age, the skin colour or the ethnic origin do not have any influence on our activities.
• We explicitly acknowledge the UN Charter on Human Rights. Child labour and forced labour are rejected by us and by our business partners.
• The interaction with our business partners is of great importance to us. We maintain an intensive exchange and a trustful interaction with our customers and suppliers. Any pretence of obtaining or granting an undue advantage is to be excluded by us.
