Sterilization plays a key role in protecting lab samples from contamination and addressing infection prevention protocols designed to keep patients and staff safe. Autoclaves operate by pressuring steam in an airtight chamber to increase the internal temperature of the device to 121°C or greater. At this high temperature range, the heat over an extended period of time can destroy all microorganisms and effectively sterilize items that have been exposed to it. While the conditions created by an autoclave are ideal for sterilization, it poses a challenge for labels that are not engineered for this harsh environment.
